Greater Acapulco has festivities taking place all through the year including concerts,
festivals, fairs and sporting events.
The list below presents an overview of the major events in the Acapulco area.
- January
- Acapulco Fair
- The Acapulco Fair, ideal for visitors with children, sets up near the Convention Center from the week before Christmas to the week after New Year, with rides, carnival games and vendors.
- Feast Day of San Antonio de Abad
- Roman Catholic churches bless the animals on January 17.
- February
- Carnival Fair
- In early February, pre-Lenten activities are celebrated in Acapulco with a parade and crowning of a king and queen.
- Acapulco Philharmonic
- From February through early July, the Acapulco Philharmonic is scheduled at Juan Ruiz de Alarcon Theater in the Convention Center.
- Abierto Mexicano de Tennis Pegaso
- Some of the best on the ATP Tour gather for men’s clay court play in Acapulco’s Abierto Mexicano, part of the ATP Tour. Call (904) 285 8000 for more information.
- March
- Presidential Birthday
- March 21 is the public holiday birthday for Benito Juarez, Mexico’s president from 1859 to 1872. Many banks and businesses are closed for celebration.
- Spring Break
- Not on the official calendar, March and April nevertheless turn Acapulco into a Spring Break party place, alive with students and locals.
- April
- Easter Holidays
- Good Friday and Easter Sunday are public holidays, with banks and businesses closed.
- Acapulco Philharmonic
- From February through early July, the Acapulco Philharmonic performs a concert schedule at Juan Ruiz de Alarcon Theater at the Convention Center. Call 484-6626 for more information.
- French Festival
- At the Centro Internacional Acapulco, the two-day French Festival marks the melding of Mexican and French cultures. Call (744) 484-6852 for more information.
- May
- Cinco de Mayo
- Cinco de Mayo on May 5 is a public holiday celebrating Mexico’s defeat of French troops in 1862. Banks and businesses are closed.
- Acapulco Fest
- From mid- to late May, sports activity along with pop / rock concerts and more take place at the convention center. Call (800) 2280-1515 for more information.
- June
- Navy Day
- The first of June brings Navy Day, a nautical commemoration of all Mexican seaports.
- Acafes
- Held early in June, this annual Acapulco music festival draws huge crowds from all over Mexico, making the Costera looks like a giant parking lot.
- July
- Acapulco Philharmonic
- From February through early July, the Acapulco Philharmonic each year performs a concert schedule at Juan Ruiz de Alarcon Theater at the Convention Center.
- August
- Feast of the Assumption
- The Feast of the Assumption is a public holiday celebrated in Acapulco as well as throughout Mexico.
- September
- Independence Day
- Mexico’s independence from the Spain is celebrated in a public holiday with banks and businesses closed.
- October
- Columbus Day
- This holiday celebrating adventures of the explorer brings closure of some businesses.
- November
- Day of the Dead
- El Dia de los Muertos (the Day of the Dead) is a three-day festival unfolding throughout Mexico honoring the departed with candy skeletons, candles, incense and more.
- December
- Las Posadas
- Mid-month, Las Posadas observances commemorate Joseph and Mary’s search for shelter with candlelight processions.
- Feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe
- Acapulco honors Mexico’s patron saint on this public holiday.
